CARRERA

Discover our new bracelet edition made from the interior leather of a 1977 Porsche 911 Carrera.

C arrera! Seven particularly desirable letters, at least when they adorn the rear of a 911. The name has stood for particularly sporty versions of Porsche's vehicle models since the 1950s.

Also in 1977, a car with the Carrera lettering under the radiator left the Zuffenhausen factory hall: a 911 Carrera 3.0 with a black leather interior.

A good 45 years later, the vehicle is still on German roads; at the same time, interior leather is experiencing a renaissance: in the form of B andWerk's new special edition Carrera.

Etymology

The term »Carrera «

“Carrera” – a word that sounds to many like the roar of an engine, comes from Spanish and translates as “race” – and for Porsche it was not just any race.

It is the Carrera Panamericana, a Mexican road race of the golden 1950s in which Porsche not only participated but made history.

In 1954, Hans Herrmann raced around the Mexican track in a Porsche 550 Spyder and, despite its 1.5-liter engine, took a breathtaking third place in the overall standings - he was only beaten by two Ferraris with 4.5-liter engines! This success not only brought Porsche class victory, but also established "Carrera" as a synonym for high performance and sportiness in the Porsche world.

design

The bracelet

The design inspiration for the new Carrera special edition was a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera in the color “Glacier Blue,” which a member of our design team discovered at the Fuori Concorso on Lake Como.

The fine, bluish thread sewn onto the edges of the strap and the light blue inner leather that is visible through the sporty strap holes are reminiscent of the light, metallic blue paintwork of the vehicle.

A RARE SPECIES

The Carrera 3.0

In 1976, the Carrera 3.0 entered the scene - often referred to simply as the "Carrera 3". This model never made it across the pond to the USA because it could not meet the strict North American emissions standards. The result? Only 3,687 of these exclusive vehicles were produced between 1976 and 1977. Let's take the Porsche 911 SC, for example, which many see as the successor to the Carrera 3.0: over 58,000 examples of this model rolled out of the Zuffenhausen factory. A striking difference that only makes the Carrera 3.0 even more desirable!

100% vegan

Sustainable resources

It's not just the outer material of our SEAQUAL straps that is smart and sustainable. The inner material we use is AppleSkin™, an ecological leather alternative made from leftovers from the food industry.

Specifically, the cores and peels of apples from the Italian Alpine country are processed into a powder. This powder then replaces oil derivatives such as polyurethane in the production of a vegan, leather-like material.

The magical 3-liter mark

In the shadow of the 911 Turbo?

At first glance, it seemed as if the highlight of the model compared to its older brother, the Carrera 2.7, was merely the three-liter engine. In fact, it was essentially the same core as the 911 Turbo (Type 930) introduced at the same time - just without the kick of the turbocharger. Critics were quick to label it a "Carrera 2.7 RS light".

But such a quick devaluation did it an injustice! Sure, the performance data was quite close to that of its predecessor. But the way this Carrera flexed its muscles was incomparable. Instead of just filling the gap left by the 930's lack of turbo power, Porsche fanned the engine's inner fire: the compression ratio was raised and catapulted the three-liter Carrera to an impressive 200 hp and a torque of 255 Nm. It was precisely this torque value that gave it legendary status in the world of naturally aspirated engines.
