Discover the new Apple Watch straps made from the interior leather of a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL.

Mercedes-Benz built the legendary 107 roadster series for a total of 18 years. Today, the sporty cruisers are more popular than ever, and have long since become collectors' and enthusiasts' cars. Particularly popular: the charming "date" interior color: a dark beige tone that adds the finishing touch to the luxurious, sporty characteristics of the vehicle.

For about 38 years, the date-colored leather adorned the interior of a Mercedes-Benz 380 SL until we were allowed to process the material further to breathe new life into it.

The result is a bracelet limited to 139 pieces in a unique new design: the special edition “Gran Turismo”.

The limited edition bracelets will go on sale in the online shop on May 22, 2022 at 8 p.m. German time.

In addition, the special edition will also be available locally for the first time in the Munich BandWerk store. The bands will be available here on May 21st during the usual opening hours from 12pm to 6pm.

A unique edition

The bracelet

What is particularly striking about the new special edition is the carefully quilted cross-stitching at the ends of the two strap parts. The design element is a homage to luxurious luxury cars, which also includes the 380 SL despite its primarily sporty orientation.

The superbly matured leather in the colour “date” is further enhanced by the white edge colour and the contrasting stitching.

Mercedes-Benz 380 SL

The vehicle

With the 380 SL model, Mercedes continued the seven-year success story of the 107 series. While the shape and design of the body remained largely unchanged with the upgrade of the 350 SL to the 380 SL, the Stuttgart-based company focused primarily on changes under the hood.

The new model has an improved engine made of light metal, which not only saves weight but also provides more horsepower than its predecessor. In Germany, the car now puts a whopping 218 hp on the road.

Customers on the other side of the Atlantic have to make do with much less: In view of the simmering oil price crisis, Mercedes is only allowed to bring the car onto the market here in a stripped-down version with 155 hp. However, this does not affect demand: Depending on the model year, over 80% of the vehicles produced end up on the North American market.
